The Friend of Allah · Ibrahim · إبراهيم
JudaismChristianityIslam
Abraham, peace be upon him, is called in the Quran an intimate friend of Allah, a leader, and a Muslim. He is named in 63 verses, one surah is named for him, and the Quran tells the believers to follow his religion. Because the Quran is the final revelation, it is the measure by which the earlier books are read, including what they say of Abraham.

The Bible
Where the Bible tells of him · Genesis, in the King James Version
Genesis 12:1
“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee…”
Genesis 15:6
“And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”
Genesis 17:5
“Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.”
Genesis 17:20
“And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.”
Genesis 22:2
“And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”
Jews and Christians read this as the son Isaac; Muslim scholars have held different views on which son it was, since the Quran does not name him.
Christians and Jews read these Bible passages differently. This page presents them as the Quran frames them, with the Quran as the final revelation and the measure for what came before.
